Chinchilla could be the birthplace of new fundraising ideas, during
today’s famous Melon Festival parade. RACQ CareFlight supporter Paul
Gleeson has built a special float the parade, calling it “Scare Flight”.
The
float is a cut out of the RACQ CareFlight helicopter, with Paul sitting
in the “cockpit” on a bicycle, which he pedals to turn a ceiling fan,
which is set up in the place of rotor blades.
Paul said this
is just one of the fun sights to be seen at the famous Chinchilla Melon
Festival, which has been running all week long.
“A mate of mine is a sign writer, so we came up with the idea of creating an RACQ CareFlight float for the festival,” Paul said.
“We got an old pushbike and cut it in half and an old fan, and we’ve set it all up to work like a propeller.”
“We’ve even got a couple of kids in the back to man the operating theatre.”
Paul
Gleeson also hosts a bowls day at Chinchilla to raise funds for RACQ
CareFlight each year. This year’s bowls day will be held on May 6 at
the Chinchilla Bowls Club.
RACQ CareFlight is a medical and
rescue helicopter service that operates throughout southern Queensland
and northern New South Wales. It has helped more than 12,500 people
since beginning operations in 1981.
