HELICOPTER CLOCKS UP HOURS OVER EASTER WEEKEND


The RACQ CareFlight rescue helicopters and crew had a busy Easter with so many Queenslanders enjoying their favourite recreational activities over the weekend.

On Good Friday the Toowoomba team were called to a property at West Mount Walker near Laidley, where a 36 year old woman suffered pelvic injuries in a horse fall.  They transported the woman to the Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

The Toowoomba crew were then called to Stanthorpe Hospital to collect a 4 year old boy who had amputated his toe in a motorbike accident.  They transported the boy and his mum to the Toowoomba Hospital.

Also on Good Friday morning, the Gold Coast crew were called to Karingal at Moreton Island to assist a 76 year old man with chest pain.  

On Saturday (April 7) the Toowoomba crew were called to a dirt track at the Glasshouse Mountains where 2 motorbikes had collided.  One of the men died in the accident, the other, a 19 year old man, was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with a broken right femur, and lacerations.  He was in a stable condition.

While at Toowoomba Hospital, the team was tasked to fly to Kingaroy Hospital for another motorbike accident.  The 17 year old patient was transported to the Toowoomba Hospital with a possible broken pelvis.  He was in a stable condition.

On Easter Sunday (April 8), the Toowoomba crew were called to Somerset Dam to assist a 31 year old Hazeldean woman with possible spinal injuries after a water skiing accident.  She was transported to the PA Hospital in Brisbane.

Late on Sunday night, the Gold Coast crew were called to Nambour Hospital to assist a 56 year old man with a brain bleed.  The Maroochy man was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.

RACQ CareFlight is on call 24 hours a day to help people who are sick or injured in accidents across southern Queensland and northern New South Wales.  RACQ CareFlight is a charity, which offers its service at no cost to the patient.  The service has assisted more than 12 500 people since it began in 1981.
