A CareFlight Doctor and Paramedic had to be winched more than 50 metres to treat a badly injured trail biker rider who had crashed seven kilometres north -west of Mount Warning.
The 28 year old Burleigh Man had a broken right collarbone and suspected spinal injuries after coming off his bike in a dense area of the Mebbin Forest at 1.30pm.
“Because of the difficult terrain we couldn’t land the helicopter where the rider was laying badly hurt. We were forced to winch in our medical team.
“The Doctor and Paramedic were sent down the cable together to treat the rider, we got to him within half an hour of being tasked,” said CareFlight Air Crewman Luke Pagano.
Once stabilised the patient was taken by Ambulance to a nearby sports field where The RACQ CareFlight Helicpoter was able to land safely. The Burleigh man was then airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital.
“Despite his injuries the patient was in good spirits talking to the crew during the flight,” said CareFlight Air Crewman Luke Pagano.
