After an extensive six month makeover RACQ CareFlight has turned the blades on its new twin-engine Bell 230.
The helicopter bought from Vermont USA, has undergone a complete avionic and image overhaul carried out by CareFlight’s highly experienced Engineering Department.
“It’s a huge sense of relief to finally see those blades move. Countless hours including many sleepless nights have gone into re-configuring this aircraft, but knowing at the end of the day it will help save many lives makes it all well worth it,” said Chief Pilot Dave Bashir.
“Our Engineering Department has done an incredible job converting the aircraft to suit our operation. Mechanically it has been upgraded and internally completely re-configured to cater for our equipment.”
The twin-engine Bell 230 will be CareFlight’s third helicopter, complimenting the existing twin-engine Bell 412 and 350BA Squirrel.
“A second twin-engine aircraft for the fleet will only improve the service that continues to be there 24/7 for the people of Southern QLD and Northern NSW,” said Dave Bashir.
“Twin -engine helicopters have night and all weather capabilities, for RACQ CareFlight to now own two all weather rescue choppers is a huge plus for the community.”
The helicopter will be based at CareFlight’s Toowoomba Hangar servicing the south west on weekends and school holidays. The Bell 230 will also provide back-up for the Gold Coast based Bell 412.
