INJURED KITE SURFER RESCUED FROM BROADWATER

RACQ CareFlight has airlifted a 45 year old man who has suspected spinal injuries after falling head first from his Kite Surf in the Broadwater on the Gold Coast.

“It’s believed the man was doing a jump when he came down and landed awkwardly on his neck in the water,” said CareFlight Air Crewman Luke Pagano.

A CareFlight Paramedic was winched onto a sandbank where the man was being treated.  It was then decided to land the chopper and board the patient the smoothest way possible.

“Obviously he will have to undergo scans, but the initial signs are positive. I actually think he is a lucky guy, said CareFlight Dr Renee Beer.

The man was complaining of pain in his back and neck.  He was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
