TWO BURNT IN FUEL EXPLOSION

A 58 year old male in a critical condition had to be airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in the RACQ CareFlight Helicopter around 9pm, after the car he was working on went up in flames.

The man was welding underneath the car on a property in Forest Hill when the fuel tank exploded.  The 58 year old suffered severe burns to his face.

/When the RACQ CareFlight medical team arrived at Laidley Hospital they decided to intubate (ventilate) the man immediately to protect his airway.

"Burns to the face must be treated very seriously as the damage can affect the throat and cause breathing complications at any time," said CareFlight Doctor Renee Beer.

A 58 year old female was lucky to only suffer superficial burns from the heat of the flames. She was also transported to the RBH in a stable condition.

"Her husband took the full brunt of the explosion, she was very lucky," said Dr Beer.
