The driver of a car that collided with a truck on the Cunningham Highway, East of Warwick, remains in Intensive Care following emergency surgery overnight.
CareFlight Doctor Renee Beer who treated the patient at the scene, says the signs are looking positive, but the 60 year old is not out of the woods yet.
“She lost extensive amounts of blood, has suffered numerous broken bones right throughout her body and requires further surgery today,” said Dr Beer.
The RACQ CareFlight Chopper was tasked to the accident yesterday afternoon around 3pm.
“When we arrived she was in a very bad way, we knew we had to move very quickly and get her straight to surgery,” said Dr Beer.
An initial plan to airlift the Sunshine Coast woman to the Mater then road transport her to Princess Alexandra Hospital had to be aborted because her condition was deteriorating rapidly.
Instead she was flown straight to Royal Brisbane Hospital by the RACQ CareFlight chopper. Within half an hour of landing the 60 year old was in surgery.
