A Sunshine Coast woman critically injured when the car she was driving collided with a truck on the Cunningham Highway, east of Warwick two weeks ago is out of intensive care.
CareFlight Doctor Renee Beer who treated the patient at the scene, says the 60 year old has done incredibly well and is expected to make a full recovery.
“She was deteriorating rapidly at the scene when we initially arrived so to now hear that she is off life support is truly fantastic,” said Dr Beer.
The RACQ CareFlight Chopper was tasked to the sickening accident on Tuesday 16 September around 3pm.
“To know that we played a big role in the resuscitation efforts and that we were part of the chain of survival is very satisfying,” said CareFlight’s Dr Beer.
An initial plan to airlift the Sunshine Coast woman to the Mater then road transport her to Princess Alexandra Hospital had to be aborted because her condition was deteriorating rapidly.
Instead she was flown straight to Royal Brisbane Hospital by the RACQ CareFlight chopper. Within half an hour of landing the 60 year old was in surgery.
The Sunshine Coast woman is expected to start rehabilitation soon for several broken bones.
