18 YR OLD CRITICAL

Tests will be carried out at the Princess Alexandra Hospital to determine the extent of head and neck injuries sustained by an 18 year old Toowoomba resident involved in a single vehicle accident this morning.

The female driver was placed on life support at the Toowoomba Base Hospital  before being transported by the RACQ CareFlight helicopter to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

RACQ CareFlight Doctor Mark Laverty said the patient had suffered head injuries, a neck injury, a lacerated liver and a contusion on her lung in the crash.

“When we picked up the patient she was ventilated but stable.

“While transporting her we continued treatment and monitored her condition.

“The patient requires intensive care treatment and further imaging of the neck for neurosurgeons to ascertain the extent of the damage sustained,” he said.

It is believed one of the two passengers in the vehicle is currently being treated in Toowoomba.
