FLYING BOLT FRACTURES DRIVER'S SKULL

An 18-yr-old girl has a fractured skull following a freak accident near Boonah.

A bolt from a passing ute fell off the back of the vehicle, ricocheted off the road and up through the windscreen hitting the young dirver in the face.

RACQ CareFlight AIr Crewman Luke Pagano said, the patient was very lucky the shrapnel didn't penetrate her eye socket.

"It must have hit her extremely hard, she suffered a fractured skull and facial injuries from the bolt's impact," he said.

RACQ CareFlight airlifted the 18-yr-old from Boonah Hospital to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition late this afternoon.
