The RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter transported a 58 year old man who was crushed by a container that fell off a semi trailer at Oakey this morning.

The truck driver was unloading the container when it overbalanced and fell on top of him, pinning him against a building and trapping him for a short time.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue Doctor Chris Cheeseman said the man was in a critical condition and on life support.

“The patient has sustained extensive crush injuries, mainly to the pelvis and chest.  He was intubated at the scene, and will be airlifted to Brisbane for specialist treatment,” he said.

The patient will be transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
