STRUXI STAFF DIG INTO POCKETS FOR CAREFLIGHT

RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s South West operation has received a boost, with Toowoomba-based building design firm Struxi Designs signing on as a major sponsor and member of the Darling Downs Dozen, a select group of South West businesses who provide valuable support to the vital helicopter rescue service.

Nathan Harmsworth, Director of Struxi Designs , says the company has supported a range of charities over the years, but will concentrate their efforts on CareFlight moving forward.

“We felt that CareFlight was a very good cause, and one that concentrates a great deal of its efforts in the South West, which was important to us.

“We would like to assist CareFlight to reach their goal of providing a service that runs seven days a week in the South West region and it’s satisfying to know we are doing our part,” he said.

In addition to Struxi’s management getting on board to help RACQ CareFlight Rescue, the company’s nine employees have also decided to get involved, donating a portion of their monthly bonus to the charity.  This donation is on top of Struxi’s existing sponsorship.

“We approached the staff and asked them if they would like to contribute a portion of their monthly bonus to CareFlight, and the response was unanimous.  Everyone wanted to help out, some have offered to donate 20% of their bonus, which can be a lot of money.

“No one hesitated when they saw the benefits that RACQ CareFlight Rescue provides to our community.  Our office is located in the centre of Toowoomba and we can often see the CareFlight helicopter flying overhead, so the service is never far from our minds” he said.

Struxi Building Designer Peter Weatherspoon was personally touched by RACQ CareFlight Rescue late last year, when his 13 year old daughter was rescued from Table Top Mountain by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter.

“My daughter Harli was bushwalking with friends when she became badly dehydrated and needed to get to hospital.  It would have been a bit of a drama getting her down from the mountain if CareFlight hadn’t been around,” he said.

“It was a huge relief to know that help was available when we needed it, and when we were asked if we wanted to contribute to CareFlight, the decision was easy.”

RACQ CareFlight Rescue’s Leanne Angel says it’s the generosity of businesses like Struxi that keep the helicopters flying.

“With Struxi on board we are another step closer to providing an extended service in the South West region.  The fact that Struxi’s employees have gone the extra mile and dipped into their own bonuses to give us a boost is testament to the great support we receive from the people of Toowoomba,” she said.

Since 2006, RACQ CareFlight’s iconic blue and yellow choppers have helped hundreds sick or injured patients from the South West region.  With a response time as little as six minutes, the RACQ CareFlight Rescue service is provided to the communities of the South West on weekends and school holidays at no cost to patients.
