Aircrew Qualifications
Introductory Crewman Course
CareFlight Training Services (CTS) offers an Introductory Crewman Course, which has been specifically designed to upgrade the skills of anyone employed in ground-based positions in the aviation industry.
This course will provide participants with introductory skills and knowledge for training as a crewman in an operational helicopter environment.
While not a full qualification in its own right, this course does contribute towards a Certificate III in Aviation (Rescue Crewman) - AVI30510.
The course includes important background information, aviation theory and skill development in a range of aviation operations.
Theoretical and Practical subjects include:
- Pre and Post Flight Preparation
- Personal Protective Equipment and Safety Equipment
- Emergency Procedures and Drills
- Aircraft Underwater Escape Skills
- Use of Life Saving Equipment
- Aviation Security Procedures
- Helicopter Landing and Winching Procedures

Certificate III in Aviation (Rescue Crewman)
The Certificate III in Aviation (Rescue Crewman) course is an entry level qualification for anyone who wishes to pursue a career as a helicopter crewman in the aviation industry.This course provides the skills and knowledge required to work in the role of a search and rescue crewman in the operational helicopter environment.
Participants will develop skills in safe working practices in the aviation workplace, winching, managing loads, health and security procedures, and managing emergency situations in a helicopter.
The course includes important background information, aviation theory and skill development in a range of aviation operations.
Theoretical and Practical subjects include:
- Pre and Post Flight Preparation
- Personal Protective Equipment and Safety Equipment
- Emergency Procedures and Drills
- Aircraft Underwater Escape Skills
- Use of Life Saving Equipment
- Aviation Security Procedures
- Helicopter Landing and Winching Procedures
- Wiremen Duties
- Managing Helicopter

Certificate IV in Aviation (Rescue Aircrewman)
The Certificate IV in Aviation (Rescue Aircrewman) course provides the skills and knowledge for anyone required to work in the role of an air crewman in the operational helicopter environment. This course is a highly structured program which covers all aspects of an air crewman’s role.Course participants will acquire skills in winching, wiremen duties, securing and managing loads, health and security procedures, managing emergency situations in the helicopter, and training safely while working in the aviation workplace.
The course includes important background information, aviation theory and skill development in a range of aviation operations.
Theoretical and Practical subjects include:
- Pre and Post Flight Preparation
- Personal Protective Equipment and Safety Equipment
- Emergency Procedures and Drills
- Aircraft Underwater Escape Skills
