Workplace Safety Training

CareFlight Training Services (CTS) offers an Aircraft Awareness Course to provide students with the knowledge required to work safely in the aviation environment.

Participants are taught how to work safely around aircraft, how to maintain basic situational awareness in the aviation workplace, the need to follow security procedures and how to maintain the safety of people and aircraft.

This course is ideal for anyone employed around or in aircraft, including:

  • Paramedics
  • Hospital orderlies
  • Mining and exploration personnel
  • Aerial fire fighting and crop dusting support crew
  • Oil and gas industry personnel
  • Aerodrome staff and ground crew
  • Aviation engineers and mechanics
  • New staff working around or in helicopters
This course includes important workplace theory and skill development in a range of operational aviation environments. This course, if successfully completed, will credit four competencies towards a Certificate III in Aviation – Rescue Crewman.

Theoretical and practical subjects include:

  • Working Safely Around Aircraft – includes aircraft and aerodrome familiarisation, aircraft movement characteristics, aircraft performance, operation, loading and refuelling precautions, aircraft hazards and the use aviation support equipment.
  • Developing Situational Awareness in the Aviation Workplace – includes procedures for maintaining situational awareness in an aviation environment, weather implications on safety, communication procedures and protocols, managing safety and security issues, risk assessment and safety, security and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining the safety of people and aircraft – including safety responsibilities and roles of aircrew, OH&S hygiene and environmental regulations, customs, quarantine, equal opportunity and anti-discrimination, passenger and aircraft safety, safety requirements during cabin operation, safety and emergency procedures and aircraft briefings.
  • Aviation Security Procedures – including legislation, responding to security threats and emergencies, securing facilities and aircraft, sign of suspicious behaviour, protecting personnel and the workplace, use of security systems and equipment and security communication systems.
