Surfer airlifted
The RACQ CareFlight Helicopter has airlifted a 23-yr-old male following a serious surfing accident at South Stradbroke.
The surfer was hit in the back of the head and knocked unconscious for several minutes.
Flight Paramedic Jaye Newton said it could have been a very different story if the patient had of been surfing alone.
“He was unconscious and getting hit by waves. He could have easily drowned if he wasn’t dragged out of the water,” he said.
“He was treated by Paramedics on the beach for water in his lungs and was conscious when we arrived.
“He is an extremely lucky young man, it could have been a lot worse.”
The 23-yr-old was airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital for further tests.
